Unfortunately, we have "artists" in the Twin Cities who are using "black henna" -- a product which uses PPD (a chemical found in black
hair dye) to get the black stain that so many people want, instead of natural henna's beautiful brown stain.
PLEASE remember this
memory helper when someone offers to do a "henna tattoo" on you. Ask them what color the final stain will be. When you hear their
answer, just remember:
"If it's black, jump back. If it's brown, sit down."
Here's a link to a story from WCCO-TV about a recent "henna"
incident.
The artist CLAIMS she
wasn't using black henna, yet all the results from the "henna" are the ones commonly found when people get black henna tattoos:
*
Scarring
* Blistering and burning
* Stinging upon application
* Unusually dark color (natural henna paste can vary in color from green
through reddish brown to dark brown...but never true black).
This unsafe product is being used in malls, festivals, parties, and
on beaches throughout the world (including here in the Twin Cities)...but don't let that trick you into thinking it is safe!!!!
